HEFSIBA ICHE (Institute for Christian Higher Education) is a Christian Tertiary
institution recognized by the Government of Mozambique
and is accredited by the University of North-West in South Africa. HEFSIBA is
located in the northern part of Mozambique. It is known for its excellence,
sound doctrine and solid leadership development.
The name HEFSIBA is derived from a Hebrew word which means "In
her is my delight". In Isaiah 62:4 we read:
"You shall no longer be termed forsaken,
nor shall your land any more be termed desolate but you shall be called Hephzibah
- for the Lord delights in you". (New King James Version)
HEFSIBA offers the following degree certificates:

BA Theology Diploma of three years
- BA Theology Degree of four years
- BA Theology Honours (4 years) (Mozambique recognition);
- BA Theology Honours Degree (a further 2 years – in collaboration with NWU)
- BA Psychology (Community Counseling) of four years
It also offers the following courses:
- A one year training course for Evangelists
- A two year training course for local Bible translators
- A three year training course for the wives of the theological students
of HEFSIBA

Not only do students receive academic training, but are also equipped with the following
skills:
- develop their English writing and speaking skills,
- improve their knowledge of Portuguese,
- become computer literate,
- are trained as community development facilitators and entrepeneurs, and
develop as counselors to
lead the battle against HIV/AIDS
HEFSIBA recognizes the importance of family life. Studnets are therefore encouraged
to bring along their spouses and children for the duration of their studies.
Special attention is paid to the wives, since
they need to be spiritually and emotionally equipped to support their spouse's in
their work. They are studying a three year course to deepen their knowledge of the
Word, and are taught how to preach and lead Bible study groups. They leave the college
with knowledge on Children's ministry, women's work in the congregation, cooking,
needlework, basic healthcare, medicinal plants, English and Portuguese. The children are accomodated in a creche and
pre-school facilities.
The theological courses are fulltime whilst the degree in psychology is a partime
course. In 2010, 72 students enrolled at HEFSIBA for the different courses.
With this Africa contextualised, Reformed and outcome based approach; HEFSIBA serves as a model for
other Theological Schools in Africa. HEFSIBA serves the whole society
of Mozambique and is interdenominational.
At HEFSIBA
the leadership style is one of servanthood, with Christian compassion
towards the poor and the needy.
